Appeal to donate socks for the homeless of Sheffield

Donate Socks for the Homeless of Sheffield

Winter 2019/2020 UPDATE

After a fantastic response to our appeal for new and clean socks 2017, 2018 and 2019 for Socks in the City - Sock-it to Sheffield.  Our chosen charity, The Cathedral Archer Project, supporting the homeless of Sheffield, is pleased to accept your donations of clean socks direct.

For further details, please see:   The Cathedral Archer Project

Unfortunately, we are no longer able to collect and redistribute donations from our We Fix Feet clinics.

We Fix Feet Limited would like to thank all those who have previously donated socks.   Your kindness has made a difference to those supported by The Cathedral Archer Project.  If you wish to donate socks for the homeless of Sheffield, please send them to, or drop them off at The Cathedral Archer Project.

The team at We Fix Feet Podiatry & Foot Healthcare want to inspire people to make a donation of as many warm, clean socks in order for them to be distributed to homeless shelters of Sheffield this winter.

Research from charities providing support to homeless people of Sheffield suggests that socks were one the least donated items, yet one of the most needed.

Homelessness is on the rise and is something we face seeing on a daily basis. As the harsh winter months draw nearer, it highlights how much of a terrible time this is for people on the streets of Sheffield and how very cold they will get. Because of the shortage in sock donations, Sheffield’s homeless population is at risk of serious foot disease.  During the harsh winter months, this is the time that will most definitely lead to a rise in preventable illnesses and unfortunately deaths for those living on the streets of Sheffield.

Socks insulate the feet, reducing the risks of serious health complications.  Dark coloured socks are needed as homeless people don’t often get the opportunity to launder clothes.  Dark materials will show less wear, less discolouration and fewer stains, which allows for longer use.

“Helping the Homeless is something close to my heart. I believe if everyone reading this donated just one pair of socks, we could help eradicate the sock shortage and help prevent serious foot disease amongst the homeless. Everyone has a sock drawer and I’m sure one pair wouldn’t be missed, yet your help could make a massive difference to someone in greater need. We live in a great city, so let’s show Sheffield our support for the people who need it most. Let’s Sock-it-to-Sheffield!”– Alison Connell, We Fix Feet

2020 Update:  If you would like to donate any socks new or old, please drop off your clean socks to:

The Cathedral Archer Project,
Sheffield Cathedral,
Church Street,
South Yorkshire

Sheffield. Is collection box outside or can I post them through the letter box? Will only be in town Monday when you are closed? Thanks

    • We Fix Feet on 28/11/2018 at 2:00

Sorry Maz, we don’t have a letterbox and the shutters will be closed. You could post them to us, or alternatively if you’re in the area, drop them off at our sister clinics at Ilkeston – Derbyshire or Beeston – Nottinghamshire.

Hi, I have some new socks to donate but don’t live in the area – can I send to you in the post? Thanks

    • We Fix Feet on 13/01/2020 at 2:00

      Hi Anna,

You can certainly sed them in the post to our Sheffield clinic at We Fix Feet, 28 Union Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2JP.
However, you may wish to contact your local Salvation Army, who may be able to advise a local charity accepting donations of socks for the homeless.
