DIY Foot care at home

Whilst our foot health clinics are closed during this period of lockdown, we have prepared a few tips to help you keep your feet healthy at home. Good foot care is essential all year round, but especially for those with diabetes or other health conditions. Taking care of your skin, circulation and overall condition of your feet will ensure that you are able to move about free from discomfort. Simple self-care measures include: Always check your feet every day, looking for any new blisters, wounds, or splits between the toes. Contact us if there is anything red, hot or open sores. Clean and dress any cuts, scratches or wounds. Always wear footwear even indoors. Always wear shoes that fit properly, feel how they fit with your hand. Never sit with your feet too close to a fire. Use a moisturising cream everyday, but avoid between your toes.

It is therefore with regret that We Fix Feet has temporarily closed all clinic branches with immediate effect. We will be contacting all patients that had appointments for the next three weeks. We hope to be looking to reschedule your appointments towards the end of April, beginning of May. To recap on The Prime Minister’s statement: All members of the public are to only leave home for shopping for basic necessities. ie food or medication and one form of exercise per day. We urge you to stay healthy and active. That you eat sensibly and take some form of exercise. Walking around the block is a great way of getting some exercise and some fresh air. Of course, whilst observing social distancing measures.

National Measure Your Feet Day

A day dedicated to measuring feet appears to be a strange concept. However, 23rd January is National Measure Your Feet Day. It's an opportunity for everyone to give your feet a little more attention. People rarely think about their feet, but they are a vital part of our everyday lives and require as much care as any other part of our bodies, if not more! National Measure Your Feet Day originates from Iceland. Ancient Icelanders spent most of their free time, either bowling or ‘shelbing’*. Shelbing is high-fiving with your feet! When spring, a time known for extreme rainstorms in Iceland, the natives would run into their huts, and celebrate the rain by measuring their feet and then pairing off. Shelbing was a customary way to celebrate the rainstorms. Soon enough world leaders caught wind of this usual tradition and found a way to commemorate it, and it continues to this day!
