Put very simply, chiropody is the treatment of the feet and their ailments. Chiropody treatment mainly involves the treatment of skin and nail conditions but injury to the skin and/or nails could also fall under this remit.

Hi! I am Steve, an extended scope practitioner here at We Fix Feet.

My specialist area is that of Musculoskeletal, Sports injuries and Rehab along with complex foot pathologies.

My drive is to provide unique treatment and action plans for my clients to enhance their mobility and sporting issues. This will enable them to follow our aims of treat, improve and move.

I am able to provide up-to-date treatments which are tailor to your needs, using the modern technology and equipment we have at We Fix Feet.

This can include, bespoke 3D printed insoles, minor surgery to Sports Fitness Assessment and Rehab management.

My background of being ex-military and the extended skills, along with knowledge and experience have helped people just like yourself using our range of rehab and sports therapy programs.

What happens at a Chiropody appointment?

Chiropody appointments should be a really enjoyable experience. Your practitioner will assess your feet and take care of any areas that need a bit of TLC.

Typically, the chiropodist will start by cutting your nail and removing any hard skin or corns that may be present.

Does it hurt?

Usually someone will go in to a chiropody appointment in some pain or discomfort and come out feeling like they have two new feet with a pep in their step. It’s like magic. This is why I sometimes tell people that I am a wizard!

In fact, I will never forget the joy of one of my patients who had pain in her toe for three years, had seen multiple specialists with no success, and was completely pain-free after a simple corn removal.

If that’s not magic, I don’t know what is!

What is the difference between chiropody and podiatry?

This is a common question that I get asked every day. Chiropody encompasses the treatment of skin or nail conditions including corns, callus, fungal skin, nail infections and verruca treatment.

Podiatry, however, is more of a foot doctor, and as well as doing normal chiropody, they also treat injuries of the foot such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis, lower limb muscular issues, postural/walking defects, as well as diabetic assessment and wound healing.

Foot healthcare practitioners are trained to carry out the treatments required in both professions.
