Your on holiday and enjoying the sun, and you're ready to have fun! You've remembered to put sunscreen on but uh-oh, you've forgotten your feet. Now, they're all red and sore from sunburn. Ouch!
In the UK, we don't get many sunny days in the summer, so when they come, we're excited to wear our flip-flops and sandals and sometimes we forget our feet need protection too. Nothing can ruin a sunny day like sore sunburn, especially on your feet. So, what can you do to treat sunburnt feet?
First, get a towel, make it wet with cold water, and put it on your feet. This will help cool them down and make them hurt less.
Use a cream or lotion that has aloe vera or a cool, unscented moisturising cream. This will help with any swelling and pain.
If you've got a headache because you spent too much time in the sun, lie down in a cool, quiet room. Sometimes being in the sun too much can make you feel sick, so make sure you know the signs of feeling too hot.
The best thing is to not get sunburn in the first place. Here's how you can keep your feet safe from the sun.
Always put sunscreen on. Make sure it's at least SPF30 and don't forget your feet! Our feet are easy to forget but they can get burnt just like the rest of our skin. Don't forget the bottoms of your feet too, they can also get sunburnt.
The sun is strongest between 10 am and 4 pm. Try not to play outside during this time to keep your skin safe. If you're going to the beach, go in the late afternoon so your skin is less likely to get burnt.
Try to stay in the shade. It's a great way to enjoy the weather and stay cool. If you're playing with little ones, play in places where the sun can't reach, like under trees.
Remember, our feet are really important and we need to take good care of them, just like they take care of us.
REMEMBER, HAPPY FEET ARE HEALTHY FEET.
