Put A Spring Back In Your Step: Our take on Workday Foot Woes

Work shoes. We Fix Feet.

Greetings from the world of feet! 🦶

Every foot has a tale to tell, and oh, the stories we've heard! From marathon mishaps to dance floor disasters, but today, we're diving into the world of "post-work foot drama"!

Why do our feet complain after a long day at work?

When you come home, kick off those shoes and think, "Blimey! My feet are absolutely throbbing!", it’s not just because they fancy a moan.  It’s hard graft being a foot, especially when trapped in an office shoe or standing on a shop floor all day.

Consider this: if each foot takes on about half your body weight, for someone weighing 70kg, that's 35kg resting on each little foot.  No wonder they're a bit grouchy by 5pm!

The Shoe-tastrophe!

First up in our foot investigation is the usual culprit:  Mr Improper Footwear (or his close relative, Ms High Heels).  Some shoes may look fantastic and get you a couple of compliments, but they're not always foot-friendly.  Shoes that are too tight, lack arch support or have heels higher than Blackpool Tower can cause a lot of stress on your feet.

Solution:  Opt for shoes with good soles, are supportive and have enough room to wiggle those toes…  but not too big so your foot slides around inside!  And hey, if you’re really attached to those stilettos, try to just keep them for special occasions or carry a pair of comfy shoes to change into for your commute.

Stand-off with Standing!

Jobs that require you to stand all day can take a toll.  Over time, this can cause muscle fatigue and strain, especially if you’re on hard surfaces.  Remember, it’s not just about the feet; standing for prolonged periods can affect your legs, knees, hips and back too.

The solution is If possible, take short breaks.  A quick stroll, some foot exercises or even just shifting your weight from one foot to the other can make a difference.  Anti-fatigue mats and our supportive insoles can also be a game changer.

Beware of the Flat Land!

Some of us are born with flat feet, high arches, or other foot quirks.  This means our feet might need extra care to stay pain-free.  When the arches of your feet collapse, it can alter the alignment and function of your foot, leading to pain after prolonged activity.

The solution could be Custom Orthotics.  These can provide support to those fallen arches and realign your foot function.  Also, strengthening exercises and stretches can also be helpful.  An appointment at our clinics can provide help and guidance on what’s right for you..

Weighty Matters!

Our feet bear the brunt of our body weight.  Carrying a few extra kilos can add additional strain.

Solution: If you’ve piled on a few pounds over the past few years (let’s face it, who hasn’t?), even losing a little weight can help alleviate foot, knee and hip strain.

Foot-tastic Tips to Soothe Sore Feet:

Elevate and Celebrate!

Pop those feet up!  Elevating your feet can help reduce swelling and promote healthy blood circulation.

Cold Compress

A bag of frozen peas or a cold towel can soothe those aching muscles.  A cold foot bath can be incredibly refreshing.  However, this is England, and we know our weather!  If it's already nippy outside, maybe give this one a miss. 😉

Foot Bath

Warm water mixed with some Epsom salts – a recipe for relaxation!

Massage

Give your feet a gentle rub.  If you can get someone else to do it, even better!

Stretch and Flex

Flick off those shoes and wiggle those toes!  Some gentle stretches can do wonders.  For a delightful treat, try rolling a tennis ball under your foot.

In the grand scheme of things, our feet are a bit like unsung heroes.  They take us places, support us in our ventures and rarely ask for anything in return.  However, if they start singing the blues (or screaming in agony), it's time to listen up!

Painful feet after work. We Fix Feet.
