Running Clinic: Optimise Your Performance and Prevent Injuries

At We Fix Feet, we understand the unique challenges that runners face, from injury prevention to performance enhancement. Our dedicated running clinic offers comprehensive services tailored to meet the needs of runners at all levels.

Our Services

  1. Gait Analysis
Understanding your running mechanics is crucial for both performance and injury prevention. Our gait analysis service examines your walking or running patterns to identify any abnormalities, such as overpronation or supination, that could lead to discomfort or injury. By assessing your movement, we can detect issues that may contribute to pain or injury.
  2. Running Injury Treatment
Whether you’re dealing with plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, or shin splints, our experienced podiatrists provide effective treatments to get you back on track. We focus on identifying the root cause of your injury to prevent future occurrences.
  3. Custom Orthotics
Proper foot support can significantly impact your running efficiency and comfort. We offer custom orthotic solutions designed to correct imbalances and provide the support your feet need during activity.
  4. Performance Enhancement
Beyond injury treatment, we aim to help you reach your running goals. Our team provides guidance on technique improvement, training plans, and strength and flexibility exercises to enhance your performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about running assessments, injury prevention, running technique, footwear and returning to running safely.

01 What is a running assessment and who is it designed for?

A running assessment is a detailed evaluation of how you run, move and load your body.

It is suitable for beginners, recreational runners and experienced athletes who want to reduce injury risk, recover from injury more effectively or improve their running performance.

02 Do I need to be an experienced runner to attend the Run Clinic?

No. Whether you are preparing for your first 5K or training for an ultramarathon, your assessment will be tailored to your experience, current fitness and individual running goals.

03 Can a running assessment help prevent injuries?

Yes. A running assessment can identify factors that may increase your risk of injury, including training errors, movement patterns, unsuitable footwear and strength deficits.

Addressing these factors may help reduce the likelihood of future running-related injuries.

04 What happens during a Run Clinic appointment?

Your appointment with a specialist Graduate Sports Therapist includes a discussion about your running goals, training and injury history.

It also includes a movement assessment, running analysis and a personalised plan based on the findings from your appointment.

05 Will you analyse my running technique?

Yes. We assess your running mechanics to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, comfort and resilience.

Any recommendations will be based on your individual movement, symptoms and running goals.

06 Can poor running technique cause foot, knee, hip or back pain?

Running technique is one factor that may contribute to foot, knee, hip or back pain.

Training load, strength, mobility, footwear and previous injuries can also play important roles, which is why we assess the complete picture rather than running technique alone.

07 Should I bring my running shoes to the appointment?

Yes. Please bring your current running shoes and any other pairs you regularly use for training.

This allows us to assess their wear patterns and determine whether they remain suitable for your running style and training needs.

08 Can you advise me on the best running shoes for my feet and running style?

Yes. We provide independent footwear advice based on your biomechanics, comfort, training goals and running requirements.

Our advice is not based on promoting a particular footwear brand.

09 Will I need custom orthotics to continue running comfortably?

Not necessarily. Orthotics are only recommended when they are clinically appropriate.

Many runners improve through footwear advice, rehabilitation and training adjustments alone. Where orthotics are appropriate, We Fix Feet can scan for, prescribe and 3D print custom foot orthoses.

10 Can the Run Clinic help me return to running after an injury?

Yes. We can create a structured return-to-running programme that progresses according to your symptoms, recovery and current capacity.

Your programme may include walking, running intervals, strength exercises and gradual changes in distance or intensity.

11 Can you help me train for a marathon, half marathon or other endurance event?

Yes. We can provide advice on injury prevention, training progression and rehabilitation to support your preparation for a marathon, half marathon or another endurance event.

Recommendations will be tailored to your event, current training level and injury history.

12 How long does a running assessment take?

A running assessment is typically longer than a routine consultation, allowing sufficient time for your clinical assessment, running analysis and discussion of your personalised plan.

We recommend allowing up to 90 minutes in your schedule for the appointment.

13 Will I receive a personalised treatment or training plan?

Yes. Every runner receives recommendations tailored to their running goals, injury history, current training and assessment findings.

Your plan may include rehabilitation exercises, training adjustments, footwear advice or additional treatment where appropriate.

14 Can you help improve my running performance as well as reduce injury risk?

Yes. Improving movement efficiency and addressing factors that may be limiting your running can support both performance and long-term physical resilience.

The recommendations will be tailored to your individual needs rather than attempting to apply one running style to every runner.

15 How many appointments am I likely to need?

Some runners may only need one detailed assessment and a personalised programme.

Other runners may benefit from follow-up appointments to monitor progress, review their running and adjust their rehabilitation or training plan.

16 Why should I choose We Fix Feet's Run Clinic?

Our HCPC-registered Podiatrists and Graduate Sports Therapists combine expertise in biomechanics, podiatry and rehabilitation.

We provide evidence-informed advice focused on helping you run more comfortably, confidently and efficiently.

17 Can younger and older runners both benefit from a running assessment?

Yes. Running assessments can be valuable at any age and are adapted to each runner's goals, experience, physical ability and current level of activity.

18 Can I combine my Run Clinic assessment with Shockwave Therapy or Microgravity Treadmill rehabilitation if required?

Yes. Where clinically appropriate, we can integrate treatments such as Boost Microgravity Treadmill rehabilitation, strength programmes, Shockwave Therapy or K-Laser Therapy into your overall management plan.

Any additional treatment will be recommended according to your diagnosis, symptoms and rehabilitation goals.

19 Can I access a specialist running assessment through the NHS, or is private assessment my best option?

Specialist running assessments are not routinely available through the NHS.

Many runners choose private assessment because it provides timely access to detailed running and gait analysis, along with a personalised rehabilitation or performance plan.

20 How do I know if the Run Clinic is the right service for me?

The Run Clinic may be suitable if you are experiencing running-related pain, returning to running after an injury or simply want to improve your running efficiency.

An assessment can identify the factors affecting your running and help determine the most appropriate next steps.
