What’s Really Causing It — and How We Treat It

If your hip feels stiff, sore, or painful when walking, standing, or exercising, you’re not alone.

Hip pain is a common condition that can affect people of all ages, impacting mobility and daily activities. While rest or painkillers may temporarily relieve symptoms, lasting relief comes from understanding and treating the root cause.

At We Fix Feet, we specialise in diagnosing why your hip pain occurs (whether it’s joint degeneration, tendon strain, bursitis, overuse, or biomechanical imbalance) and designing a personalised treatment plan to restore movement and comfort.

What Is Hip Pain?

Hip pain can involve discomfort, stiffness, or reduced range of motion in the hip joint or surrounding muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

It may develop gradually due to overuse, arthritis, or biomechanical issues, or suddenly after injury. Hip pain can affect walking, standing, climbing stairs, and exercising if not treated properly.

Causes & Risk Factors

Hip pain may result from:

Tendinitis (overuse injuries affecting tendons around the hip)
Muscle or ligament strain (due to sudden or repetitive movements)
Poor biomechanics or alignment issues (increasing stress on the hip joint)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Flat Feet

What causes hip pain?

Hip pain can result from overuse, muscle imbalances, bursitis, tendonitis, arthritis, or injuries to the joint or surrounding soft tissue. Poor biomechanics or previous injuries often contribute.

Greater Trochanteric Bursitis is inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs (bursae) on the outside of the hip. It causes sharp or aching pain, often worsened by walking, running, or lying on the affected side.

Symptoms may include dull aching or sharp pain on the side or front of the hip, stiffness, reduced range of motion, swelling, and discomfort when climbing stairs or standing after sitting.

Diagnosis involves a clinical assessment, reviewing your medical history, gait analysis, and physical tests for flexibility, strength, and tenderness. Imaging like X-rays or ultrasound may be used in some cases.

Treatment depends on the cause but can include:

  • Focused Shockwave Therapy
  • K-Laser Therapy
  • Targeted stretches and strengthening exercises
  • Custom orthotic insoles to improve biomechanics
  • Lifestyle and activity modifications

Recovery varies depending on the cause. Mild inflammation or overuse injuries may improve within 4–6 weeks, while chronic bursitis or tendon degeneration may require several months of treatment.

Yes. Untreated hip pain, especially bursitis or tendon issues, can become chronic and limit mobility, increase the risk of joint degeneration, or impact other areas like the knee or lower back.

These therapies are recommended for stubborn or chronic hip pain. They help reduce inflammation, promote healing, and improve tendon or bursa function. Your clinician will assess suitability.

Yes. Poor foot mechanics can contribute to hip pain. Custom insoles can improve alignment, reduce strain on the hip, and support long-term recovery.

See a specialist if your pain lasts longer than a week, worsens with daily activity, interferes with sleep or mobility, or if you experience swelling, bruising, or sudden sharp pain.

Ronnie Mbwana did a fabulous job for me today. He gently treated my damaged toenail, cut my nails, removed hard skin and provided a thorough checkup. The service provided by him and the receptionist throughout was excellent. I highly recommend this practice.

I had an appointment with Ronnie 6 weeks ago, and again today for a follow up appointment.
I had an ingrown toenail which I had left way too long and had become infected. I finally plucked up the courage to visit We Fix Feet in Ilkeston. My only regret is not visiting sooner! Ronnie was able to remove the portion of ingrown toenail at my first appointment, and within a day or two, my nail was perfect. After hiding my feet for many years I finally have a healthy set of toenails and have treated myself to my first ever pair of open toe sandals! All the staff here are wonderful, professional and very reassuring for which I am very grateful. Thank you
