Standing with the Armed Forces Community
At We Fix Feet, we are proud to support Armed Forces Day 2026 and Reserves Day 2026.
These important national events give us the opportunity to pause, reflect and say thank you to the people who serve, have served, and support those who serve.
Armed Forces Day 2026 takes place on Saturday 27 June 2026. Reserves Day 2026 takes place on Wednesday 24 June 2026. Together, they form part of Armed Forces Week, a time when communities, employers and organisations across the UK are encouraged to show their support for the Armed Forces community.
For us, this is not just about one day of recognition.
It is about respect, fairness, practical support and a year-round commitment to the Armed Forces community.
Who Makes Up the Armed Forces Community?
The Armed Forces community includes regular serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets, service leavers, military spouses, partners and families.
Often, when people think about the Armed Forces, they naturally think of those currently serving in uniform. But the community is much wider than that.
It includes families who support loved ones serving. It includes veterans who bring skills, discipline and experience into civilian life. It includes reservists who balance civilian work with military training and operational readiness. It also includes cadets and adult volunteers who contribute to personal development, leadership and service within local communities.
Armed Forces Day is a chance to recognise and thank all of them.
Why Reserves Day Matters
Reserves Day is especially important because reservists often carry two commitments at the same time.
They have civilian jobs, families and everyday responsibilities, while also giving up their spare time to train and serve in the Reserve Forces. The official Armed Forces Day campaign explains that reservists balance civilian life with a military career and must be ready to serve if required. Reserve Forces also make up approximately one-sixth of Armed Forces personnel and provide important capability at home and overseas.
That commitment can sometimes go unseen.
Reserves Day helps bring that contribution into the open. It encourages employers and local communities to recognise the dedication, professionalism and sacrifice shown by reservists across the UK.
As an employer, We Fix Feet believes this matters.
Supporting reservists is not only the right thing to do; it also recognises the skills, values and mindset that reservists bring into the workplace.
Our Commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
We Fix Feet is a proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant is built on a clear principle: those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, should not face disadvantage compared with other citizens. In some circumstances, special consideration may be appropriate, especially for those who have been injured or bereaved.
Our published Covenant commitment states that We Fix Feet Limited commits to honouring the Armed Forces Covenant and supporting the Armed Forces community. It also recognises the value that serving personnel, regulars, reservists, veterans and military families contribute to our business and to the country.
As part of that pledge, We Fix Feet has committed to supporting:
- Armed Forces-friendly activity
- UK service veterans and leavers
- Service spouses and partners
- Flexible leave for spouses
- UK reservists
- UK cadets
- Armed Forces Day
- Armed Forces charities
These commitments are publicly listed as part of our official Armed Forces Covenant pledge.
What This Means in Practice
For us, support should not simply be words on a page.
It should be visible in how we think, how we recruit, how we treat people and how we contribute to our community.
We Fix Feet’s policies have been adapted to help ensure that no member of the Armed Forces community is disadvantaged, particularly in recruitment and employment. We offer guaranteed interviews to veterans and other members of the Armed Forces family who meet the minimum selection criteria for an advertised vacancy, recognising equivalent skills and qualifications gained through Armed Forces experience.
We also aim to act with understanding towards members of the Armed Forces community who may have experienced bereavement, injury within the family, or caring responsibilities linked to a loved one’s service. Our commitment also includes flexibility for service spouses before and after a partner’s deployment.
This is about recognising that service life can affect the whole family.
It is also about understanding that military experience often develops qualities that are incredibly valuable in civilian employment: discipline, teamwork, resilience, communication, leadership, calmness under pressure and a strong sense of duty.
These qualities matter deeply in healthcare.
A Commitment That Is Personal to Us

Our support for the Armed Forces community is also personal.
We Fix Feet has strong links to the Armed Forces through our co-founder, Steve Carter, whose military background has helped shape many of the values that underpin the business today.
Standards matter. Teamwork matters. Accountability matters. Looking after people matters.
Those principles are visible in how we aim to care for our patients, support our team and build a clinic that serves the wider community.
At We Fix Feet, our mission is to help people treat, move and improve. That mission fits naturally with our respect for those who serve and have served.
Whether someone is a veteran wanting to stay active, a reservist balancing work and service, a service spouse managing family life around deployment, or a member of the wider Armed Forces community needing support, our message is simple:
You are welcome here.
Proud to Be Recognised Through the Employer Recognition Scheme
We Fix Feet is proud to have been recognised through the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award.
The Employer Recognition Scheme encourages employers to support Defence and inspire others to do the same. It includes Bronze, Silver and Gold awards for organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support for Defence and the Armed Forces community, while aligning their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Gold Award is described by GOV.UK as the highest badge of honour for employers who support the Armed Forces community and uphold the Armed Forces Covenant.
For We Fix Feet, this recognition is something we are proud of, but it is also a responsibility.
It reminds us that support should be active, visible and ongoing.
That means continuing to raise awareness, continuing to review how we support the Armed Forces community, and continuing to encourage other local businesses to consider what they can do too.
Encouraging Other Local Businesses to Get Involved
As a healthcare business based in the East Midlands, we believe local employers have an important role to play.
Support does not always need to be complicated.
It can begin with learning more about the Armed Forces Covenant. It can mean reviewing recruitment policies. It can mean recognising military skills and qualifications. It can mean offering flexibility where possible. It can mean supporting reservists, cadet volunteers, veterans, service leavers and military families in practical ways.
Most importantly, it means creating a culture where members of the Armed Forces community feel respected, understood and not disadvantaged.
We would encourage other businesses across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the wider East Midlands to consider signing the Armed Forces Covenant and exploring how they can support the Armed Forces community.
Small actions can make a meaningful difference.
